| ‘FRONTLINE HEROES’ APPLAUDED AT GLOBAL HEALTH CONFERENCE |
 |
A new initiative to recognise leadership in community healthcare was launched at the 10th Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Awards Dinner in New York last month.
‘Frontline Heroes for Health’ is a joint initiative between Anglo American and Virgin Unite to recognise individuals who make a real and positive difference in people’s lives, by delivering life-changing health services where they are needed most.
The first recipients of the award, Dr Gilbert Khosa and Kgomotso Kwenje, manage the Bhubezi Community Healthcare Centre in South Africa’s Mpumalanga region, providing better healthcare to impoverished rural communities and helping thousands of people who are struggling with life-threatening conditions.
As part of the launch, World Television was commissioned to produce a short film celebrating the award winners and highlighting the positive difference they are making within their communities. In order to tell their stories, our crew shot on-location over two days in Bushbuckridge, approximately four hours’ drive north-west of Pretoria. The film premiered as the Heroes took the stage to receive their accolades from Anglo American CEO Cynthia Carroll and Virgin founder Richard Branson. It’s now on YouTube. |
| BP: A YEAR OF CHANGE |
 |
On 20 April 2010, the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig blew up and sank in the Gulf of Mexico, tragically killing 11 workers and leaking oil into the surrounding ocean.
The events that unfolded in the days and months that followed were played out extensively across the world's media. In response, BP released over 180 videos throughout the crisis documenting how the company was taking action at sea, along the shoreline and within the local communities. Produced by World Television the videos were made available through BP’s intranet and corporate website, bp.com.
A year on from the accident, BP commissioned World Television to produce a new film drawing upon this unique archive of footage. Entitled a ‘Year of Change’, the film aims to give an objective account of the events that took place, summarise how the organisation responded and outline what BP is doing now to put safety and risk management at the heart of its operations. A Year of Change sits within the Gulf of Mexico restoration section of bp.com, view it here. |
| WORLD’S FIRST TOUCH-ONLY SMARTPHONE LAUNCHES AT NOKIA CONNECTION 2011 |
 |
Nokia launched the world’s first touch-only smartphone at its South-East Asia Pacific ‘Nokia Connection’ event in Singapore last month.
Nokia Connection is an annual event held in conjunction with CommunicAsia 2011 to showcase Nokia’s latest developments to customers, operators, analysts and journalists within the SEAP region. The star of this year’s show was the N9, a new mobile phone that solely utilises touch-screen technology. Its lack of front-facing buttons sets it apart from similar devices – to unlock the phone users simply double-tap the screen and then swipe their fingers across it to navigate the user interface. In addition to introducing the new N9, senior Nokia executives gave an overview of the company's strategy around development, design and new product launches.
World Television was on location in Singapore to webcast the two-day event live. You can see an on-demand highlights package of that webcast on the Nokia Connection website. We also produced eight b-roll videos to support the media’s news stories around the event and made them available via Nokia’s digital newsroom, that we originally built and now host and maintain for Nokia. |
| UPGRADED PLATFORM POWERS SELF-SERVICE, CONFERENCE CALL WEBCASTING |
 |
We’ve just released an upgraded version of our market-leading StreamStudio platform – and it now drives self-service, conference call webcasting!
StreamStudio has been handling the end-to-end webcast production and distribution requirements of some of the world’s top brands – such as Heineken, Nestle, Santander and Credit Suisse – since we launched it in 2001. As well as conference call integration, which allows clients themselves to create audio webcasts directly from a conference call or telephone line, our development team has built in a number of valuable new additional features:
- Dynamic bandwidth switching for Flash: visitors to any of World Television’s webcasts automatically receive the best quality Flash stream available for their bandwidth. The stream adapts automatically throughout the duration of the webcast as bandwidth increases or decreases.
- Integration of dynamic content, for example RSS feeds, news tickers and social media widgets like Twitter, to allow for greater audience interaction.
- In addition to iOS, Blackberry, Android and Symbian, live streaming support for Windows Phone 7 & Samsung Bada devices.
- Microsoft Silverlight delivery capabilities.
- GeoIP-based country restriction.
- Advanced security and authentication settings.
