NESPRESSO AAA: IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF YOUR MORNING CUPPA
Each year, Nestlé spends billions on the primary products like milk, coffee and cocoa critical to manufacturing its foodstuffs – employing around 3.5 million people in developing countries in the process. As part of the drive to improve farmers’ living standards, environmental practises and water usage in these markets Nestlé supports local communities, investing capital and talent to deliver benefits to stakeholders and individuals alike.

The AAA Sustainable Quality Programme, launched in association with the Rain Forest Alliance by Nestlé in 2003 under its Nespresso brand, puts the multinational’s Creating Shared Value philosophy into practise. Nespresso works alongside farmers in Jardin Antioquia, Colombia, to improve the quality, sustainability and ultimately the profitability of their coffee beans. In exchange for premium prices for their beans farms on the programme are required to adhere to the Sustainable Agriculture Network standards for social and environmental responsibility.

At the end of last year World Television was on location in Colombia filming a case study about the AAA Programme for Nespresso that explains the programme and highlights the benefits it brings to local farmers. The film will be available on the Creating Shared Value section of nestle.com within the next month and will be presented to shareholders as part of Nestlé’s annual report.
SPACE AGENCY RENEWS CONTRACT TO PROMOTE INTERGALACTIC EXPLORATION
The New Year has gotten off to a flying start for World Television with confirmation that the European Space Agency will be employing our broadcast PR services for another three years, effective immediately. We have been working with the Agency since 2005 to provide broadcast media relations support for its main events and after a competitive tendering process at the end of last year we are delighted to have retained the contract through until the end of 2014.

We work in partnership to promote the importance of the Agency’s global role in the exploration and use of space. This includes distributing B-Roll footage and Video News Releases as well publicising missions to international broadcasters. We also built, and now host and maintain, the Agency’s digital media corner which makes footage, high resolution images, press releases and other relevant information around the Agency’s missions accessible to journalists free of charge.

The next mission World Television will be undertaking contracted services for is the first qualification flight of the Vega launcher. Named after the second brightest star in the northern hemisphere Vega has been designed to send small satellites (300 to 2,000kg) into the polar and low-Earth orbits used for many of ESA’s scientific and Earth observation missions. The launch is planned for 9 February from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana. More information is available at www.esa.int.
NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED FOR 2012 BAFTA AWARDS EVENT
The HQ of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, BAFTA, was a hive of activity last week as the nominations for this year’s Orange British Academy Film Awards were announced. British actor Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and actress Holliday Grainger (Jane Eyre) took to the stage to present the nominations on 17 January.

One of the most significant events on the film glitterati’s calendar, the Orange British Academy Film Awards is broadcast in over 75 territories worldwide and takes place in February each year, just ahead of the Academy Awards. The event celebrates the best work of any nationality to be shown on British cinema screens throughout the year preceding. A full list of the nominations is available on BAFTA’s website. Winners will be announced at a star-studded event at London's Royal Opera House on Sunday 12 February.

World Television was working alongside BAFTA’s marketing and communications consultancy Freud Communications to provide media relations support in the lead up to the event – contacting broadcasters across target territories to sell the story in and coordinating the press on location at BAFTA’s London head office. In a couple of weeks we’ll be back on the red carpet to manage the media for the main awards ceremony.

We also coordinated the broadcast PR for the 2012 Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award Nominations. Launched in 2006 to honour a young actor or actress of any nationality with outstanding potential, the Award is the only audience-voted award of the BAFTAs – the ‘people’s choice’. This year’s nominees are: Adam Deacon (Kidulthood, Adulthood); Chris Hemsworth (Thor); Tom Hiddleston (War Horse, The Deep Blue Sea); Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids); and Eddie Redmayne (My Week With Marilyn).
