| BRIT INSURANCE DESIGN AWARDS CELEBRATES THE WORLD’S BEST |
 |
A showcase of the world’s most innovative and forward-thinking designs was on display at the annual Brit Insurance Design Awards in London last month.
The high profile awards ceremony, held on 15 March at the Design Museum, applauded the talent of designers across the globe in seven categories: architecture, fashion, furniture, graphics, interactive, product and transport.
The winner of this year’s top accolade was Plumen 001 – a stunning redesign of the classic low energy light bulb. British designer Samuel Wilkinson worked alongside product design company Hulger to create the bulb, which is packaged in a beautifully sculpted exterior and uses 80% less energy, lasting eight times longer than its incandescent equivalent.
World Television was at the Design Museum covering the event for the second year. In addition to producing two Video News Releases for distribution to UK broadcasters in the lead-up to the event, we coordinated two Radio Media Tours around the official opening of the Design Museum exhibition and the awards ceremony itself. We also filmed and edited nine short videos promoting the winners, which were shown on the big screens at the official prize-giving. See designsoftheyear.com for more.

| LATEST ESA LAUNCH TO MAKE HISTORY |
 |
When the space shuttle Endeavour blasts off into outer space on 29 April it will be the shuttle’s final journey to the International Space Station (ISS). Launching from NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, USA, Space Shuttle Mission STS-134 will carry a crew of six – including Mission Specialist and European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Roberto Vittori – in order to deliver an Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) and spare parts to the ISS.
This mission marks Endeavour’s 25th flight and its last trip to the ISS. Endeavour, the last orbiter ever made, was built as a replacement for Challenger and flew its maiden voyage on 7 May 1992. It is named after the first ship commanded by James Cook, the 18th century British explorer, navigator and astronomer.
In order to promote the historical launch World Television will be undertaking a comprehensive media relations campaign to maximise coverage across the world’s media. For more information visit ESA’s digital newsroom.

| DEUTSCHE POST DHL LAUNCHES FIRST SUSTAINABILITY DAY |
 |
Political, social and industry leaders were invited to meet at Post Tower in Bonn, Germany, last month for Deutsche Post DHL’s first ‘Sustainability Day’. In addition to key figures from Deutsche Post DHL, the event – which was moderated by well-known Luxembourg-born journalist and TV presenter Ranga Yogeshwar – welcomed an illustrious line-up of commentators. Germany’s State Secretary from the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Gerd Hoofe, the Deputy Director of the Institute for Employment and Research, Ulrich Walwei, and Andrea Kocsis, the Deputy Chair of the ver.di trade union's National Executive were amongst those debating topics around the theme of corporate responsibility in the 21st century.
World Television provided comprehensive multimedia coverage of the event. We broadcast all stage discussions live over the internet via a multi-camera set-up we had established in the main conference centre. We also recorded the main press conference, edited it onsite and made it available online in less than two hours.
Within 12 hours of the event’s conclusion we had produced two short documentaries and uploaded them onto YouTube:
