WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM GOES SOCIAL FOR 2011 ANNUAL MEETING
World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos The World Economic Forum increased the accessibility of its Annual Meeting even further this year by opening the debate, “Shared Norms for the New Reality”, to the online public.

The Forum issued an invitation for anyone concerned with the world’s affairs to submit questions via YouTube. A selection of the top-voted issues were presented to, and answered by, key authorities at the video booth located within the Congress Centre’s new Social Media Corner.

To further extend its strategy to create an open and direct dialogue between world leaders and the general public, the Forum also communicated live feeds, photos and other information through its own blog plus multiple social websites including Twitter, foursquare, Facebook, Scribd and flickr. iPhone and Android apps were made available for purchase online so followers on-the-go could keep up-to-date with the state of play in Davos.

World Television was back in Switzerland over 26-30 January for the ninth consecutive year. We provided approximately 50 live and 50 on-demand streams of the 2011 summit’s major plenary sessions and keynote speeches through our proprietary StreamStudio webcasting platform. See the World Economic Forum's website for more.

INTERGALATIC CHRISTMAS FOR ITALIAN ASTRONAUT
European Space Agency sends Italian astronaut into Space for six month mission After two years of intensive training, European Space Agency astronaut Paolo Nespoli arrived at the International Space Station (ISS) in plenty of time for his first Christmas in outer space. The Italian spaceman joined crewmates Dmitri Kondratyev (Russia) and Catherine Coleman (USA) onboard Russian spacecraft ‘Soyuz’ for ESA’s latest mission, ‘MagISStra’, when it blasted off on 15 December 2010.

During the six-month assignment, ESA’s third long-duration mission to the ISS, Paolo will take the reins as flight engineer, responsible for the maintenance and smooth running of the Station as well as assisting with the docking of two unmanned cargo spacecrafts. He will also undertake a rigorous schedule of scientific and technological experiments on behalf of ESA and space agencies in Japan, the USA and Canada.

World Television has been working alongside ESA to support its communications strategy since 2005, when we initially secured a three-year contract to deliver international broadcast and online media relations for the organisation. At the end of 2010 we were delighted to obtain a further 12-month extension of the contract and will be continuing to generate interest in ESA’s missions across the world’s media through 2011.

The trio’s return to Earth is planned for next May. Follow their mission and exploits on Twitter, where Paolo has been avidly tweeting new and unprecedented images of the Earth from space.

LIVE WEBCASTING ON THE MARK FOR EUROPEAN ARCHERY TOURNAMENT
European Indoor Archery Tournament 2010 The European Indoor Archery Tournament 2011 got off to a flying start last month. Over 1,100 archers from 30 nations across four continents gathered in Nîmes, France for the event – one of the biggest indoor archery tournaments in the world. Now in its 14th year, the tournament attracted an array of hot-shots including eight Olympic medallists and 30 former and current world champions.

To open the event up to the public the Tournament’s organisers opted to stream it live over the internet for the first time, putting our ‘cheap and cheerful’ webcasting solution – StreamStudio Lite – through its paces. The webcasts are now on-demand.

You can contact us to find out more about StreamStudio Lite and the audio and video packages we have available.

NEW! OUR VIDEO PLATFORM GETS A MAKEOVER
Video360: online video management The product development team here at World Television is working tirelessly to upgrade our Video360 platform to make sure you’re ahead of the curve!

Video360 is our proprietary communications platform that stores, manages, distributes and measures the effectiveness of our clients’ video content and multimedia assets (images, word documents, PDFs etc) through numerous applications –
  • Video News Manager: a fully searchable online archive of videos and multimedia content that’s available free of charge to broadcast, print and online journalists
  • Multimedia News Release: a traditional text-based press release combined with videos, images, links and downloadable files (also targeted to journalists)
  • Channel Player & Video Widgets: online television solutions ranging from simple players to more complex web TV channels, for either internal or external audiences
  • Push360: online distribution to the world’s top video-sharing sites at the click of a button.

In addition to a refreshed interface and streamlined workflow the upgrade will support live webcasting and distribution through Facebook and Twitter. The reporting function has also been overhauled to provide more comprehensive statistics, useful for campaign measurement and determining ROI.

A beta version, Video360 2.0, will be available for testing in February. Contact us to find out more or to join our testing programme.
